A Fuzzy Control Based Algorithm for Vertical Handoff in 3G-WLAN Hybrid Wireless Environment



The integration of 3G cellular network and WLAN is the development trend of the next generation mobile communications. The realization of vertical handoff between the two kinds of heterogeneous networks is a key point to solve the integration issue. A fuzzy control based algorithm for vertical handoff in 3G-WLAN hybrid wireless environment has been proposed. The algorithm makes vertical handoff decisions based on fuzzy control, by taking into consideration of the SNR,the network bandwidth and the charge of the service. The simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can make accurate handoff decisions and eliminate the ping-pong effect compared with the traditional algorithm.
