Preparation and properties of lightweight aggregate concrete containing carbon black

Article Abstract: A novel lightweight aggregate concrete filled with carbon black was prepared.Changes of its electrical resistivity, compressive strength and mass density with the content of carbon black, the curing period and cement/sand ratio were studied in this paper. Results show that percolation phenomena associated with electrical conductivity were observed. The percolation region was between 0.3%~1.39%.When the content of carbon black was more than the percolation threshold, the curing period made little influence on resistivity. On the contrary, when the content of carbon black was less than the percolation threshold, resistivity increased with the curing period increasing obviously.Compressive strength and mass density of the specimen decreased with carbon black increasing. With cement/sand ratio increasing, compressive strength improved. As the content of carbon black was 1.94%,cement/sand ratio was 2.43~5.2,compressive strength reached 34~38 MPa,resistivity was 82.6~100 Ω·cm, mass density was 1 822~1 866 kg/m3.These main properties indicated that this new type of conductive concrete exhibited lightweight,high-strength, good conductivity. Thus,it was suitable for deicing and melting snow in the traffic pavements.
