Synthesis and Photocatalytic Property of Eu/FeVO4 Novel Photocatalyst

Article Abstract: The Eu/FeVO4 novel photocatalysts were prepared by impregnation method using NH4VO3, Fe (NO3)3 ·9H2O and Eu(NO3)3 as starting materials. The obtained samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, BET, DRS and XPS. The XRD patterns indicated that the Eu/FeVO4 photocatalysts consisted of triclinic phase without significant changes of crystalline size. The SEM images showed that after being Euloaded, many fine particles were observed on the surface of the FeVO4 particles, which maybe greatly increased their specific surface area. The DRS measurements showed that the absorption of Eu/FeVO4 novel photocatalyst was greatly increased during 200 - 500 nm. The photocatalytic activities of Eu/FeVO4 were evaluated by degradation of methyl orange under 20 W energy-saving lamp irradiation. The photocatalyty activity of Eu/FeVO4 sample was significantly enhanced and the decolorization rate of MO could be 24% more than that of pure FeVO4 sample when loading content was 0.5%.
