Preparation of Nitrogen-doped TiO2/Activated Carbon and Photocatalytic Activity Under Visible Light

Article Abstract: N-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were fabricated by mixing tetrabutyl titanate with urea in ethanol and water by sol- gel method, and immobilized to granular activated carbon by coating. The prepared N-TiO2/AC was characterized by XRD, TG-DTA, FT-IR, BET. The effect of various experimental parameters on the photocatalytic activity of N-TiO2/AC photocatalysts were investigated, which involved loading times, N-TiO2/AC amount, pH value of methylene blue, and initial concentration of Methylene blue. The results showed that the optimal condition include loading three times, N- TiOJAC amount 0.4 g, pH value of methylene blue l, initial concentration of Methylene blue lO0 mg/L. The sample has anatase crystal structure and the medial diameter is about 9. 3 nm, BET is about 746. 86 m2/g. The photocatalytic a- bility showed that over 91.43% methylence blue could be degraded after 5 h reaction under visible light, and the degra- dation rate is 65.31 times compared to pure TiO2 , 2. 58 times compared to N-TiO2 in the same condition.
